This book describes the capability and production of castings.
The design is discussed first and instruction are given for producing a good drawing. This is the job of the designer – engineer.
The foundry engineer has to prepare the production by calculating and simulating, taking care of the requirements and standards. He also decides about the pattern layout; where all different types of patterns are inventoried.
The production is castings is described concerning moulding and pattern making, melting and pouring as well as shaking out, shot blasting, fettling and cleaning possibilities. The heat treatments are described separately.
All potential inspections and repair as well as extra treatments (mostly surface treatments), marking and (pre-)machining, packing and shipping are discussed as latest operations.
